Rethink God, Grace, and Who You Are

Day 12: You Are Already Close

Closeness to God is not a journey.

It’s a reality.

But religion has taught us something different:

“Pray more, and you’ll get closer.”
“Try harder, and you’ll feel near.”
“Do more, and God will respond.”

Sounds spiritual.

It’s not true.

“He who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17).

One spirit.

Not almost one.
Not becoming one.

One.

Jesus said:
“I am the vine, you are the branches” (John 15:5).

Branches don’t strive to connect.

They just are.

So what does “abide” mean?

It means live.

I don’t try to abide in Texas.
I just live here.

In the same way—you live in Christ.

Always.

“You in Me, and I in you” (John 14:20).

That’s as close as it gets.

And it’s not progressive.

You don’t get closer over time.

You grow in awareness of the closeness you already have.

“You who were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:13).

Brought near. Not inching closer.

So stop chasing closeness.

Start enjoying it.

You’re already there.

You’re not getting closer to God. You’re already one.
