“Will my works burn up?”

What does 1 Corinthians 3 mean about works burning up? Do Christians have two fathers? Do we sometimes serve Satan? What is the meaning of “Son of Man”? My friend believes only water baptism can bring forgiveness of sins. I’m not sure we can get married if we disagree on this! Is that what Acts 2:38 is teaching us – that water baptism brings forgiveness?
