Better Than Religion – Part 14

Can a Christian Sin Away Their Salvation?

Discussion Questions for Hebrews 10:

  1. Read verses 19-20. What’s the “new and living way”? How does it inspire “confidence”? What does verse 20 reveal about when it began?
  2. Read verse 21. In what ways is Jesus a greater priest than the priests of the Old Covenant?
  3. Read verse 22. What do “sprinkled clean” and “washed with pure water” communicate about what Christ has already done for us?
  4. Read verse 23. What does it mean to “hold fast” our confession, and why is God’s faithfulness (not ours) the basis of our hope?
  5. Read verses 24–25. What is the purpose of gathering together? How is this different from a church-attendance “checklist” mentality?
  6. Read verses 26-28. What does “sinning willfully” mean here? How does “set aside” in verse 28 reveal the meaning?
  7. Read verse 29. What do the descriptions “trampled under foot,” “regarded as unclean,” and “insulted the Spirit of grace” reveal about the kind of rejection described here?
  8. Read verse 30. In the Old Testament quotation, who are “His people,” and how does that context help us understand the warning?
  9. Skip to verse 39. Why is this final verse of the chapter such an important conclusion? What assurance does it give believers after the warnings?
