“I feel overwhelming guilt!”

Why are there so many denominations? How did they get started? Why does the apostle John tell us to not love the world if God loves the world? I feel overwhelming guilt for my past, and I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried everything! Are some sections of the Bible not of any benefit to us today?
